"Water" Exhibit

Check out the first new exhibition in the Museum since we opened.
"Water - Element of Life" is an exhibition curated by Marlene Tseng Yu especially for MYM featuring paintings that depict various water and ice themes in nature. You don't want to miss this breathtaking show.

Letter from the Director:

Water is so dynamic—life-giving and life-taking, calming and exciting—and yet we often take this important resource for granted.

In some organisms, up to 90% of their body weight comes from water. We can go for a month or so without food, but only a week or so without water. Every year, we hear of floods and victims drowning. A warm bubble bath, waves on the beach, and a babbling brook provide scenes and sounds of relaxation. As a whitewater kayaker, rushing waterfalls thrill the adrenaline junkie in me, and a hot shower and hot running water after a day on the river seem luxurious. In some countries today, clean potable water is a scarce resource to attain in jugs after miles of walking. In the U.S., we can easily take for granted  over a dozen different sink, shower and tub faucets for instantaneous, temperature-controlled water right in our own homes.

Across multiple series, Marlene Yu's recognizable style developed through the years highlights the beauty, motion, depth and forms of water.  In her words, she likes to "capture the spirit of the universe, its rhythm and movements, its quiet and angry moods."

"Water - Element of Life" will be a gorgeous, breathtaking exhibit to commemorate the Marlene Yu Museum’s first birthday, and allow people to experience their relation to water in new ways. I hope you will join me in supporting the Museum at the Preview Gala. It will be the first new exhibit in the main exhibition hall since the Grand Opening a year ago.

Thank you to everyone for your generous support and words of encouragement as we continue to grow.  Pls tell your friends about us!

The gallery is open from 11 am til 5 pm Tuesday-Saturday and by appointment with free admission. There is a reception on Saturday, June 13, 2-4PM.

New York art critic, Donald Kuspit, Ph.D., wrote about the Crystal Reef Series in his essay, “Marlene Yu: Cosmic Inscape”.  Kuspit states, “The fractal process of chaos that informs nature becomes self-evident.  One element explodes into another, the entire process studied, with relentless curiosity, in picture after picture, the whole series forming a kind of scientific record of an experiment with raw natural matter as well as a seismographic tracing of a profound emotional experience.”

Wild Turkey Dreams - Part I

Artist Talk: "Dream Series by Marlene Tseng Yu"

Part one of an evening of art, food, and fun! This exhibition features paintings of wild women, deer, snakes, and rams for your viewing pleasure.

Start the night out at the Meadows Museum of Art at Centenary College with the 5th exhibition of the Lucky Sevens series, 7 different exhibitions at 7 different local venues beginning with her 70th solo exhibition in honor of Marlene's 77th year. Remember your passport to get it stamped!

The Dream Series is the only series by Marlene that uses human and animal forms, but still  captures Marlene's unique style. This series tells of love stories that consist of figurative female bodies juxtaposed with various animals symbolizing males. Originally, abstract images in nature suggest similarities with the female body and animals. From this visual connection grew the Dream Series.

Wine Country Bottle Shop & Bistro will be providing wine for the evening and Bistro To Go will be providing food.

Admission:

FREE! Please RSVP on Facebook - click here

*Dream Series posters will be available for $20 and personally signed by Marlene.

*After you fill up on delicious wine and food provided by Wine Country hop on over to the new bar at Remington Suites Hotel for the AFTER PARTY! Part II is not affiliated with Centenary College or Meadows Museum of Art in any way. This is a separate event presented by the Rainforest Art Foundation.
