Marlene Yu museum and Lucky 8s

8 exhibitions at 8 New York institutions over 8 years, in honor of artist Marlene Yu’s 88th solo exhibition and 88th year

LONG ISLAND CITY, New York, July 17, 2025 – Marlene Yu Museum introduces Lucky 8s: a series of solo exhibitions in New York, featuring artist Marlene Yu. There will be 8 shows over 8 years at 8 institutions coinciding with her 88th solo exhibition and her 88th year.

Different from a traveling show, each exhibition features a different theme and selections from her 6000+ paintings, 35+ series, and 60+ years of “Forces of Nature” creations, ranging from 16 inches to 54 feet long or 22 feet high. Yu has had 82 solo exhibitions in the U.S., Europe, and Asia. Her work has been reviewed in 9 different languages in over 300 publications including ARTFORUM, Art in America, and ARTnews.

The non-overlapping exhibitions will highlight subjects related to Yu’s signature style, lifelong environmental advocacy, and painting series, such as “Purple Swamp,” “March of Iceberg,” and “Dancing Coral.”

Each of the eight exhibitions will include its own thematic and interactive programming, such as hands-on educational workshops, artist talks, interdisciplinary collaborations, and site-specific engagement initiatives.

The “Lucky 8” institutions will be announced on September 18, 2025 at a Members’ Birthday Toast and Sneak Preview, ahead of the Founders’ Circle Museum Unveiling Tuesday, October 7 and ticketed Grand Opening of the new Marlene Yu Museum in New York City Saturday, October 11.
