Past
Downtown HolidaY Artwalk
The Rainforest Art Foundation’s Downtown Holiday Artwalk highlighted the significance of shopping from local businesses, especially during the holidays. As a means of furthering the foundation’s mission, the Marlene Yu Museum hosted booths for local creatives working to increase the appreciation of nature through art.
Sabra Dance performance
This performance by classically trained dancers, Bailey Harper and Kimberly Chmielewski, was influenced by bridging the gap of visual and performance art. The creation of a site-specific performance in an art museum redefined the expectations of how artist, audience, and space interact. Through a mixture of both dancer’s roots, “sabra” explored the complexities of the relationships that we have with one another and our planet.
Micro/Macro: Under the Microscope, Into the Cosmos
In partnership with the Rainforest Art Foundation and Agora Borealis, the Marlene Yu Museum presented a gallery and runway made to call attention to how humans interact with their environment. With all of the subject matter being inspired by nature and/or made of natural or repurposed materials, this exhibition demonstrated the Rainforest Art Foundation and Marlene Yu Museum’s commitment to sustainability and displaying nature’s beauty.
108 in the 318
In celebration of the Spring Solstice, the Marlene Yu Museum partnered with Explore Yoga and Wellness to provide a free yoga event to the community. Community members of all levels gathered to complete 108 Sun Salutations, encompassed by the serene, water themed paintings of Marlene Yu.
Marlene Yu’s 80th Birthday Gala
At Marlene Yu’s 80th Birthday Gala, art could be discovered anywhere from the multi-course feast prepared by Chef Anthony Felan, to the sword-balancing belly dancers and Cyr wheel acrobatics, to the unveiling of her monumental Pink Marble Paintings. This gala brought together a community, providing entertainment and inspiration with dedication to the life, culture, and legacy of Marlene Yu.
